Housewife Caught Stealing Meat From Neighbour’s Pot
A housewife in Sapele, Delta State, identified as Oghenero (surname withheld), reportedly got her fingers burnt yesterday, when she allegedly attempted to steal a piece of meat from a neighbour’s soup pot.
It was reliably gathered that the woman, a mother of three, gained access to the soup after the neighbour who was preparing it left it on the fire unattended and went into her room to get her GSM phone which was ringing.
The light fingered housewife was said to have moved into the kitchen while the other woman was speaking with her caller but was caught by another neighbour who had been watching her movement from a distance.
Confirming the incident, the neighbour identified as Mrs Mouka Felicia, said the hot piece of meat fell from the thieving housewife’s mouth after she was slapped by her brother-in-law and she allegedly confessed to have been carried away by the aroma emitting from the pot of soup.
Family sources said the latest incident is not the first as the woman has been involved in several cases of petty stealing for which her husband threatened to send her packing.

A complainant, Joy Dominic on Thursday broke down in tears at the Upper Customary Court, Daura road, Kaduna, when the court ordered her boyfriend to be remanded in police custody.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Joy had dragged the boyfriend, Mohammed Ashafa to the court for allegedly beating her and “causing grievous hurt”.
She had initially gone to Kabala Doki Police Station, Kaduna on 15 October at about 8 p.m., accusing Ashafa of beating and leaving her with a swollen face after an argument.
The case was then brought to the court by police prosecutor, Sgt Dare Komolafe.
Komolafe told the court that the complainant had left her hand bag containing trousers, a shirt and make-up kits with the accused and when she went to retrieve it he allegedly beat her up.
Joy had in her testimony before the court said Ashafa had no reason to hurt her.

When Inwulale ordered the accused to be remanded in police custody until he meets the bail condition, Joy broke down and wept, begging the court not to detain her boyfriend.
Her plea was however ignored by the presiding officer, who adjourned the case till 20 November, for continuation of hearing.

ASUU STRIKE: FG Agrees To Spend N200 Billion Each Year To Bring Nigerian Universities Up To World Standard
In light of the ongoing strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Federal Government has promised to spend N200 billion in the 2014 for the universities. Besides, a similar amount would be spent in the next three-four years until Nigerian universities are brought to world-class standard.
This is in addition to the N100 billion already disbursed for 2013.
This information is contained in an internal statement by Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Otuoke, Professor Bolaji Aluko. The statement was seen on Wednesday night by SaharaReporters.
The FG has also increased to N40 billion as a first installment funds for the payment of earned allowances to the striking lecturers, an improvement from the N30 billion previously released.
On the earned allowances, Aluko explained that:
“Government will top it up with further releases once universities are through with the disbursement of this new figure of N40 million, so Vice-Chancellors are urged to expedite this disbursement within the shortest possible time using guiding templates that have been sent by the CVC."
Aluko also explained that this move of the FG followed the meetings held on September 19 and October 11 between the representatives of the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities led by CVC Chairman, Prof. Hamisu of ATBU and ASUU Representatives led by its President, Dr. N. Fagge with the Vice-President of Nigeria, Arc. Namadi. Sambo, Minister of Education Barr. N. Wike and others.
Of great interest to stakeholders, Vice-President Sambo, appealing to ASUU to call off the strike, apologized for the "take-it-or-leave-it" comments credited to the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, at the onset of the strike.

Xscape Centre, Port Harcourt proved a haven of sorts as thousands of hopefuls flooded the venue in a bid to secure selected spots in the third phase of the on going regional auditions.
The event, which held on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, witnessed an impressive turnout from magicians, dancers, comics, singers, rappers, fire-eaters, acrobats and many more talents who came armed with only one mission in mind; to make it to the prized theatre auditions scheduled to hold in Lagos.
“The 3rd leg of auditions in Port Harcourt was an explosion of wild, unique and daring talents. I can assure viewers this season that they will be blown away by the impressive level of talent that will be presented when the show is ready for airing,” confirmed Ugochi Pedro Optima Media Group's Head of Legal and Director of Special Projects.

True Life Story: How I Left Lagos For Benin And Got Raped Repeatedly By A Trusted Male Friend
A friend of mine (names removed by me) reached me and invited me to come to Benin City for an event. I have known him since 2011 so I tot nothing of it. Like no harm can be done after all we go way back and stuff. So I booked my ticket from Lagos and I flew to Benin. On the 13th that was a Sunday, and it was the day of the event. After the event we went to chill at a hotel in GrA Benin. He had a Suite there. We were with other friends, we all talked, laughed, gisted and all until about 10pm. Everyone started leaving gradually, I wanted to call a cab to take me to my own hotel, but he kept on insisting on dropping me. I was like it is even better, I would save my cab fare.
So I had to wait for everybody to leave before he could drop me. Every body finally left and I was about to stand up to leave but he kept on insisting that I should stay and I kept on saying it was late that I have to travel back to Lagos the following day because of work.

US Government Shutdown Ends As Obama Signs Bill
President Barack Obama signed early Thursday a bill ending the two-week US government shutdown and extending the Treasury’s borrowing authority.
The White House announcement was the final piece in an agonizing political drama that had raised the prospect of an unprecedented US debt default and rattled markets around the world.
Office of Management and Budget Director Sylvia Mathews Burwell said in a separate statement that the government will try to get back to full operating status as smoothly as possible.
“This has been a particularly challenging time for Federal employees and I want to thank our Nation’s dedicated civil servants for their continued commitment to serving the American people,” she wrote.
Most employees furloughed for the past two weeks are expected back to work Thursday, Burwell said in a directive to federal agencies.
Moving with stunning speed, Congress voted Wednesday to end the 16-day-old government shutdown and avert the potential for the first major debt default in U.S. history in a deal that gave President Obama most of what he sought — an open government and more borrowing authority without denting Obamacare.
The Senate voted 81-18 to approve the deal and sent it over to the House, which quickly followed suit with a 285-144 vote on the measure — amounting to an almost complete surrender for the GOP.

R.I.P! Businessman Killed For Refusing To Settle Area Boys
A businessman, Charles Ugwu, has been killed in the Ajegunle area of Lagos, over his refusal to settle some street urchins, popularly known as area boys.
The incident was said to have occurred at Uzor Street, Ajegunle, on September 24 2013. A tyre dealer, Ugwu was said to have been accosted by two area boys, identified as Saturday and Chimezie, while offloading goods from a vehicle to his shop.
The deceased’s wife, Stella, who claimed to have witnessed the incident, told PUNCH Metro that her husband had resisted the thugs’ efforts to extort money from him resulting in the assault on her husband.
She said, “Around 9pm on that day, two young men, known as Saturday and Chimezie, accosted us saying they would not allow us to continue working until we settle them.
“We asked them why we should pay them because the goods had nothing to do with the hoodlums. Saturday was “annoyed; he walked away only to return with stones, which he threw at us. When my husband cautioned him to stop causing trouble, Saturday picked up a “stick and struck Ugwu on the neck.”
Ugwu was said to have fallen to the ground while all efforts to revive him failed.

Caught on camera: Moment police raided a sham marriage between Portuguese bride and Nigerian groom who knew nothing about one another
These pictures show police officers interrupting a sham wedding between a Nigerian man living illegally in the UK and a Portuguese woman.
Home Office immigration officers swooped on the ceremony, which was held at a registry office in Harrow, North London.
The man, 32, has now been sent back to Nigeria, and the woman, 22, is on bail until November 7.

Police swoop on a North London sham marriage
Broadcast on Sky News this morning, immigration officers said the woman may have married for cash on three separate occasions.
Police interrupted the marriage in front of guests and took the bride and groom for questioning separately.
It emerged that they knew little about each other and that the man was working in the UK illegally.
Harrow Council leader Susan Hall said: 'It is appalling to see the lengths some people go to in dressing up and organising guests for a sham marriage.
'A marriage is supposed to be the happiest day in your life. Well, in this case, the couple certainly got a day they won’t forget.'
Immigration officers question the Nigerian man, 32, after interrupting his sham marriage ceremony
According to police, the 22-year-old woman may have married for cash on three separate occasions
Questioning by police revealed the couple knew little about each other and that the man was in the illegally
The photographs and footage come after it emerged yesterday that one in five civil marriages in parts of Britain may be bogus.
Some 15,000 such ceremonies a year are taking place simply to get around immigration law, estimates one of the country’s most senior registrars, Mark Rimmer.
Last year the Home Office received nearly 1,900 warnings about potentially bogus unions.
But Mr Rimmer, the chairman of the Local Registration Services Association, said that figure represented ‘the tip of a very large iceberg’. He said that in urban areas, up to 20 per cent of marriages are ‘suspicious’.
He estimated that overall, 15,000 of the 173,000 civil weddings each year in England and Wales could be fake unions designed to evade immigration laws.
Registrars were powerless to prevent couples they suspected of faking their relationships from marrying and were forced to conduct the ceremonies ‘through gritted teeth’, he said.

Statement From Music Video Director Sesan Regarding Skelewu Video
Here's the official statement from the music video director's team regarding the Skelewu video which was released yesterday shot by him. Davido tweeted yesterday that the video we all saw wasn't the official one and someone betrayed him by releasing it. He also said he's re-shooting the video with UK based music video director Moe Musa. Sesan has responded to all the hoopla. See his statement below:
My attention is drawn toward the chaos surrounding the release of the Skelewu video .
Myself and my team shot the video for Davido in Nigeria and to the best of my knowledge my client and his team were very happy with the result, when they watched/ and approved the video. If he has since had a change of heart, that is ok. I am not in any way responsible for the release of the video. I believe Davido and myself did a very good job regarding the video production and as a professional of over 10 years. I find it very irresponsible and immature if my client and his management publicly put out false statements/comments, in an attempt to tarnish my name, credibility and reputation.

DO you Agree: 7 Things Women Usually Lie About
Men should just realize that a woman can never have too many pairs of wedge heels and not place her in the position of lying.
1. THEIR WEIGHT: One of the things women commonly lie about is their weight. This is probably the thing they most commonly lie about. Even the most honest woman may be shaving five pounds off of her weight when she is asked about it. No woman wants to appear as a large woman. She wants to be seen as petite and delicate.
2. THEIR AGE: Ageing is difficult, especially for women. As men age, they become more distinguished. As women age, well, we just feel like we become old. And that reality is hard to swallow for some of us so we lie about it. It doesn't make us any younger to lie about our age but it might make us feel a little younger and that is a temptation that many cannot resist.
3. THEIR COOKING: None of us can deny the fact that we live in a very fast paced world. We don’t have time to cook the things we would like to cook as long as we would like to cook them. Many, many women have attempted to pass off a store bought goody as one they prepared themselves. Even if they don’t say it in as many words, they may attempt to give that impression by placing the food item in a personal dish. At the very least, they won’t reveal their secrets.
4. THEIR SHOPPING HABITSMany women also lie about their shopping habits. But really, that should be understandable. Men should just realize that a woman can never have too many pairs of wedge heels and not place her in the position of lying. Wouldn’t you agree, ladies? Many women lie about their shopping habits to keep an argument down.
5. THE MONEY THEY SPEND: Going hand in hand with lying about their shopping habits is the fact that many women lie about how much money they spend. They may not totally lie but just stretch the truth a little on this subject. They may spend it on having their hair or nails done, shopping, lunch with a friend or just little inconsequential things. But the temptation to lie about how much money they spend, especially if they are married, can be quite high. A little white lie seems much better than an ugly argument.
6. THEIR MARRIAGE: Many women choose to present a prettier picture than there really is of their marriage. I actually don’t believe that this is totally a bad thing. While I do believe lying outright is very wrong, I believe painting your spouse in the best light is the best thing to do for yourself, for them and your marriage. When you choose to talk positively about your spouse, everybody wins. You feel better about them, they feel better about you and your marriage benefits.
7. THEIR LIFE: Many women don’t want to admit dissatisfaction with their lives, even to themselves. And while putting on a brave face is a noble thing to do, it isn’t always the best thing to do. If you are struggling with things in your life, go to a friend or a trusted counselor or religious leader for counsel. We all have hard times and we should help each other through them. It is much better to talk about how wonderful your life is when it really is.

Kano State Bans "Indecent Dressing", Prohibits Tricycles From Carrying Male & Female Passengers
Sharia Law has taken a new dimension in Kano State.According to Yahoo news...Police also have orders to arrest any cabbie carrying men and women together in the confined space of the three-wheeled taxis
“The way and manner some of the commercial tricycle operators engage in indecentdressing and carry men and women together is disturbing,” said Yusuf Yola, spokesman for the Hisbah board that is responsible for ensuring compliance with Shariah laws in Kano.
He said such dress, with pants cut off just below the knee like Bermuda shorts, also was “un-Hausa,” referring to the biggest tribe in Nigeria’s north.Usually it’s women who are the target of the Islamic police checking that they have properly covered their heads and limbs.

UCH Performs Nigeria's 1st Open Heart Surgery
The first open heart surgery in a teaching hospital in Nigeria has been successfully carried out at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The feat was carried out by surgeons at the UCH in conjunction with a team of surgeons from Tri-State Cardiovascular Delaware, United States of America,
A statement by the institution’s Head of Information Unit, Mr. Toye Akinrinola, disclosed that the four-hour surgery was to correct a leaking heart valve in a 19-year-old secondary school leaver.
An elated Chief Medical Director of the UCH, Professor Temitope Alonge, noted that the UCH was moved to embark on the exercise as a way of alleviating the hardship being experienced by Nigerians with heart-related challenges.
He stated that as the first teaching hospital in Nigeria, the UCH should take the lead in critical areas of medicine, propelling it into ensuring that complex surgeries (like open heart surgery) were carried out in the hospital.
