A confessed armed robber who had terrorised Nigeria’s western
states in the last few years was today paraded by the Ogun State
Police Command at the headquarters of the Special Anti -Robbery Squad,
Magbon, Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.
The robber who was identified as Adegoke Kasali was said to
be the deputy to Abiodun Egunjobi, a.k.a. Godogodo who was arrested
about two months ago in Lagos.
The robber, who confessed to newsmen revealed that he had killed
twenty seven security operatives and was the one that pulled the
trigger that fell the former Ogun State Commander of Vehicles
Inspection Officer,VIO, Yomi Bamgbose.
Kasali, 32, who had terrorised the entire South West States
including Kwara and Kogi States was arrested last week Friday by a
team of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad,SARS,led by the Officer- In-
Charge,Muhammed Tijani at Obele town, a community on the borders between Ogun State and Cotonou, Republic of Benin.
Other members of the robbery gang that were also paraded were
identified as Kareem Mumuni, a.k.a. Baba Owo and Lawal Waliu, alias Ijoba.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye disclosed that the gang had killed no fewer than 21 policemen since 2011 in the region including Kwara and Kogi States.
The Police boss further stated that, a cache of arms and ammunition
recovered from the gang include two AK 47 riffles, a Wealthier P22
pistol with 49 rounds of live ammunition, 55 live cartridges, two cut
-to-size double barrel guns,100 rounds of live AK 47 ammunition ,
assorted charms and two packets of Lexomil tablets .
Okoye also told newsmen that a female member of the gang identified as
Kemi Adesanya, popularly called, Special, is currently receiving
treatment in an undisclosed hospital for injuries she sustained during
the shoot-out with the policemen.
According to Okoye, “the gang members had confessed to killing the
former South West Coordinator and Ogun State Commander of the Vehicle
Inspection Officers, Mr. Yomi Bamgbose in 2011 as well as the killing
of five policemen attached to the Quick Response Squad at the Ijemo
Agbadu and Mowe/Ibafo,a year ago.
“The gang has killed eleven policemen in Kwara and Lagos States. The
gang was also responsible for the death of five policemen when they
snatched a bullion van in Imeko, Ogun State in September 2011 as well
as the killing of four members of the Ogun State Vigilante Service and
three filling station attendants at Ifo in June”, he stated.
Okoye continued,”the suspects were also said to have snatched a Range
Rover Sport Jeep from a popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma last
August along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
Kasali who was injured in a shoot -out with the police was arrested by
the Special Anti-Robbery Squad led by the Officer-in-Charge, Mohammed Tijani in the Obele area on the borders between Nigeria and Benin Republic. He led the SARS team to the hide-out of the other members of his gang in Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos State.
“On reaching there, his gang members opened fire at the team and the
team replied fire for fire and killed three of the robbers while three
were arrested and others escaped. Some items were recovered from
them.Efforts are on to arrest the fleeing gang members, the lady among
them is the most deadly, she was the one shooting at the SARS men” Okoye revealed.
While speaking with newsmen,Kasali confirmed the Police boss
statement, saying that he had personally killed no fewer than seven
policemen.
The notorious robber who is physically challenged due to burns he
claimed to have sustained since his childhood said he regretted his
involvement in crime.
“This is the work of the devil, I cannot say why I’m into armed
robbery. It’s beyond my comprehension. I’ve lost count of the
policemen I have killed, but they can’t be less than seven. I was also
part of the gang that killed the four vigilante service men and three
petrol attendants in Ifo. That day we operated with Godogodo, Godogodo
was our boss and he hated seeing policemen. We also killed two people
at the Baptist Church in Sango Ota. I want to advise those still
engaged in armed robbery to give up. I have been in this job in the
past seven years”, Kasali stated.
The Police boss had earlier paraded five members of a highway robbery
gang, who specialised in waylaying trucks loaded with goods on
the expressway.
They are: Sola Bamigbade, Abidemi Tajudeen, Kehinde Oguntade, Aliu
Hamzat and Joseph Ebenezer.
He disclosed that they were those that robbed a cable wire dealer of
goods worth N25million in Ogere-Remo along the Lagos/Ibadan expressway
last week.
